Joey McIntyre: New Kid no
longer |
New Kids On The Block was to America what Take That was to
Britain. With a discography that includes the LPs "Hangin' Tough"
and "Step By Step," NKOTB sold some 33 million albums around the
world from 1984 to 1994.
But record sales aside, things weren't altogether too great
within the group. After the Kids parted company in 1994
("acrimoniously," according to one report), band member Donnie
Wahlberg went on to become a music producer and an actor. Another
ex-New Kid Jordan Knight has just released a solo album. And now,
it's McIntyre's turn.
Having disappeared from the music scene since 1994, McIntyre
surprised the pop world with his solo album release, "Stay The
Same." The title track was very well received by radio stations in
his hometown of Boston. And before long, the popularity of the song
had also spread to the rest of America.
Sony Music wasted no time in signing the singer to their roster.
And one day in July, MTV Magazine found McIntyre in sunny Singapore
on his promotional tour of Asia. John Pang took the opportunity to
speak to McIntyre about NKOTB, his new album, and the advantage of
traveling light.
